WE’RE LIVING AN AMAZING CHAPTER IN OUR AMERICAN HISTORY!
The next few weeks should/will usher in a dramatic opportunity for constructive change to reclaim this usually resilient Country from the quagmire of incompetent governance. We The People will have unlimited opportunities to rise to many occasions. We’re all complicit in this mess, by fault and default, but the Fairness Gods are once again giving us the opportunity to do better. We can blame others, hope others will save us. However, our best hope is reflected in our mirror…challenging us to step up with family, neighbors, community, business colleagues AND our elected reps to right this destructive course. Let’s focus on THE PLATINUM RULE, TRUST and TRUTH as we influence better choices.
THE PLATINUM RULE
Most of us grew up with a familiarity of The Golden Rule —”Do unto others as YOU would like done unto YOU.” However, I was later introduced to The Platinum Rule, “Do unto others as THEY would like done unto THEM.” WOW! That makes a big difference, don’t it?! Our practiced, well-meaning values will frequently not apply to others. We actually have to know more about others before we can effectively and honestly “do unto THEM.” That takes care and time and thoughtful engagement, whether with individuals, organizations or countries. Think about it…
TRUST
This wonderful bronze was left when San Antonio’s Alamo National Bank was converted for hotel use. I remember engaging it on an early-morning camera safari, and frequently reflect on it as I’ve experienced the deterioration of Trust at every level of government and society. This descriptive statement becomes admonition as we honestly reflect on our dangerous arc of decline. We have the capacity to establish and regain TRUST in all its forms if we can summon the courage, heart and will…I’m hoping and thinking we’ll make a good run at it…
TRUTH…THIS BEARS REPEATING
Most of us are way beyond disgusted and tired of the blatant lies and misrepresentations that typify discourse in our halls of government, media and the community square. We are currently inundated with political ads that alienate and inflame, rather than inform. And the uninformed and misinformed remain so when manipulated with that intent. We should all be ashamed, and most of us are. However, we’ve yet to reach a critical mass outcry to reverse the destructive nonsense. We’ll hopefully kick into a higher corrective gear if we become inspired by the Mid-terms…
SO, WHAT NOW?
The evidence is in, beyond our wildest nightmare expectations. We’ve been had, misled, robbed and neglected in our need for effective governance…at most every level. We’re soon to be given unlimited opportunities to join in the corrective process. We really have no logical choice. Let’s honor the Platinum Rule, use Truth and love and kindness and rebuild Trust in our institutions and in each other. Lots of work…lots of potential reward. Our children and our communities deserve better. LET’S DO THIS…TOGETHER!
