When Mind, Body and Spirit Need a Break
What an amazing, dysfunctional, stressful time in this Country…and for each of us who inhabit it. Covid, weather disasters, partisan political disasters, economic disruption, immigration challenges, almost non-functional government, and a disappointing lack of leadership at many levels. We need a break! I need a break!
If we’re lucky, we may have the time, financial resources and travel options to get mental/physical health breaks to help us cope. However, most of us don’t always have that luxury, so need to have some more readily available and practical catalysts. I’d like to suggest your journals, photo albums and music libraries to assist more frequent escapes.

We all take good photos from time to time, capturing those people, places and things that touch our lives. Modern cameras make it so much easier. I still throw away the majority of my photos, but every once in awhile…You, too? Let me share some examples of images that take me back to powerful, profound, transformative moments…that help me escape when I need to. You consider your own examples, and see where they lead. Not just as a Covid escape, but for a lifetime of affirmation, enjoyment and gratitude. The exercise of selection will prove cathartic and informative as you reflect on the photo documentation of your life. Here are some of mine that work for me:

While this Mosey theme is the suggested escape from incessant political chatter, we’re bombarded so consistently from all corners that most of us can’t completely compartmentalize, even when we know we should. I’m guilty, too. I can’t offer this kind and gentle admonition without acknowledging that I know that you know that I know, etc., etc. So, there!
I took this photo during our first Women’s March (1-17). And, as our Shaman Yogi Berra opined, “It’s like deja vu all over again.” We’ve still got a dysfunctional mess in Washington and in Austin. And, while women are the targets of certain policy affronts, all of us have a vested interest in more compassionate, inclusive, equitable governance. Women’s Marches and rallies this weekend are reminders that there remains much to be done, and we each can play a role. Thank goodness for the leadership of strong women in moving us forward.
