WHAT I'VE LEARNED DURING MY COVID LOCKDOWN...THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT

March 31, 2021 Dan Bullock

A Time For Reflection

We’re hopefully finally turning the corner on Covid-19, though not quite. I’m fully-vaxxed, but still masking and being cautious in most settings. This past Covid year has been full of challenge, change, humility, introspection, surprise and revelation. A roller-coaster of disappointment and hope, setback and accomplishment. An exaggerated arc on this learning curve, with too many teachable moments. And, as if Covid twern’t enough, we had loud but ineffective politicians and a freeze in Texas to provide the bad accent to an already tough experience.

However

Most of us survived, got to know ourselves, connected with old friends and relatives, discovered our gifts, honed new skills, expanded our compassion for the many who were/are hurting, acted on Better Angel impulses and are emerging better people. I couldn’t have done it without a wonderful (and tolerant) partner, my music and sense of humor. Travel with me on this visual journey as I share some of what I learned.

Connecting With Relatives

It was fun to re-connect long distance with my Aunt Lurleen, Uncle Thurman and my two cousins. Aunt Lurleen always has a sunny disposition, gives lots of credit to her “tea.” We always considered Uncle Thurman “not quite right,” but he was always the most fun at family reunions. Cousin Clyde has always lived large, with no visible means of support, and his sister, Cousin Blossom gets the sunny disposition from her mom, Aunt Lurleen.

Environmental Sensitivity

Had more time to consider stewardship of our natural resources. This tragic animal reflects what is happening due to environmental neglect.

Lots of Pent-up Travel Plans

My partner has been so patient and tolerant. As soon as we can, I’m taking her out for a romantic dinner, where we can plan more cultural highlight trips.

Enjoying Fine Art

Always a high priority in our family. We’re anxious to again experience the great art of the world.

Eating Healthy

After putting on those first few Covid lockdown pounds, I’m now into a much more healthy regimen. Lots of salads.

Constructive Civic Engagement

Seek to engage in worthwhile community programs. Find causes in which you can enthusiastically participate.

Concentrate on Personal Development

I’ve always had a Life Coach to help me dress for success, conduct myself in a measured professional manner, and know the time and place for certain behaviors. Here I am in a reflective pose with my Life Coach, Fontaine Belvedere.
